rialikesponies asked: When talking about a band that does NOT include "the" in their artist name (ie. "Jonas Brothers" and "Zack Brown Band" vs. "The Ramones" and "The Red Hot Chili Peppers") would you include a "the" when talking about them? (So, would I say I listen to Jonas Brothers or I listen to THE Jonas Brothers?)
Good question. A while ago, I was talking to my English professor after class and she told me that if something is common, it’s right (usually). So, when people include “the” in a band’s name when it wasn’t there in the first place, there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say anything like “I like Jonas Brothers,” anyway. It sounds caveman-ish. You wouldn’t say the Sugarland or the Led Zeppelin, though. You just have to know when and when not to add “the,” but that should be pretty obvious.
