They’re not even pronounced exactly the same. And they only have one letter in common. Like, really, come on.
I think I’m more okay with people confusing there/they’re/their than I am with people confusing are/our.

It’s a southern thing. When I was in 2nd grade, I was afraid of saying a teacher’s name (Mr. Hail) because I thought I’d be saying a dirty word (hell). So, I think it’s a similar thing with are/our, lol.
